Cheesy Sausage Dish (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 6–8 frozen hash brown patties, thawed.
02 - 2 tablespoons melted butter.
03 - 1/2 pound breakfast sausage, ground.
04 - 1 small onion, diced.
05 - 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper.
06 - 1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper.
07 - 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped.
08 - 2 tablespoons plain flour.
09 - 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese.
10 - 6 large eggs beaten.
11 - 1 cup heavy whipping cream.
12 - 1/2 teaspoon salt (kosher preferred).
13 - 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper.
14 - Fresh chives for garnish (optional).
15 - Crumbled cooked bacon for garnish (optional).

# Instructions:

01 - Turn your oven to 400°F (200°C) to get it ready.
02 - Arrange the thawed hash browns into a tight layer inside a 9-inch pie plate to create a base.
03 - Brush the crust with melted butter, and bake it for 15 minutes until crispy and lightly browned. Remove and cool a bit.
04 - In a big pan over medium heat, cook sausage, onion, peppers, and garlic together. Stir frequently until sausage is no longer pink, and veggies are soft.
05 - Add the flour to the sausage mixture, stir thoroughly, and cook for another couple of minutes. Take off the heat.
06 - In a large bowl, whisk eggs together with heavy cream, salt, and pepper until smooth.
07 - Spread the cooked sausage blend evenly over the crust. Add cheese on top, then slowly pour the egg mixture over everything.
08 - Lower the oven temperature to 350°F and bake for 30–35 minutes. The eggs should be firm, and the top slightly golden. Let it cool for 15 minutes before serving.

# Notes:

01 - Make sure hash browns are completely thawed to get a proper crust.
02 - Feel free to try other cheeses like mozzarella, Gruyère, or Swiss.
03 - Store in the fridge for up to three days.
04 - A dash of smoked paprika or cayenne adds a nice kick.
