→ Vegetables

03 - 4 cloves garlic, minced
04 - 2 carrots, chopped after peeling
05 - 2 celery stalks, diced
06 - 1 medium onion, chopped fine

→ Soup Base

07 - 1/2 teaspoon oregano, dried
08 - 6 cups broth, chicken-based
09 - Salt and pepper, adjust to preference
10 - 1 can (15 oz) of tomato sauce
11 - 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes
12 - 1.5 cups green or brown lentils, uncooked
13 - 1/2 teaspoon classic Italian herbs, dried

# Instructions:

01 - Crisp up the bacon in a pan for 10 minutes and save 1-2 spoonfuls of grease.
02 - Start by cooking carrots, onion, and celery in the leftover fat for 5-7 minutes. Stir in garlic at the end.
03 - Pour everything into your slow cooker. Set it to high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours.
04 - Taste before serving and sprinkle with more salt and pepper, if needed.

# Notes:

01 - A leftover ham bone works great here.
02 - A stovetop version takes just about an hour.
03 - Add water or broth if it seems too thick.
