01 -
Heat a skillet and cook diced onion until it softens and turns clear. This takes about 4 minutes. Toss in minced garlic, cook another minute, then remove from heat and let it cool a bit.
02 -
In a big bowl, toss together the cooled onions, ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, marinara, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix lightly, then shape the mixture into 4 or 5 oval patties.
03 -
Warm some oil in your skillet over medium and quickly sear the patties until each side is golden, about a minute. Take them out and set aside. They won't be done just yet.
04 -
Use the same skillet and, if needed, add a little oil. Cook sliced onions until caramelized, then stir in mushrooms and cook until golden brown. Put the patties back into the pan.
05 -
Pour in the beef broth and add your onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring it all to a boil, then cover, lower the heat, and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
06 -
Stir in the cornstarch-water mix and continue cooking while stirring for about 5 minutes, until the gravy gets thick. Add some salt and pepper if needed. Make sure the patties hit 160°F inside before serving.
